About Me
Sridevi Gopinath has been in the field of Bharathanatyam for the past 24+ years at the renowned dance institute “Shri Bharathakala Ashram,” under the guidance of Guru Shri K Gopinathan and Smt. Sunitha Gopinathan, who are senior disciples of Padmabhushan Prof. C. V Chandrasekhar and Smt. Jaya Chandrasekhar. Sridevi’s early training set the foundation for her becoming one of the most respected names for Bharatanatyam dance classes. At the age of 15, she completed her “Arangetram” and eventually chose Bharathanatyam as her profession.
Sridevi completed her Master’s in Fine Arts specializing in Bharathanatyam from Bharathidasan University, India, under the guidance of Dr. Maria Stella. She also trained in Mohiniyattam at “Dasyam” under Guru Smt. Gopika Varma and performed alongside her Guru at various concerts and productions. Her diverse expertise makes her an excellent choice for students seeking Indian classical dance classes in a traditional setting.
Her passion for Abhinaya (expressions/acting) led her to intensive training with Guru G Venu, a Kuttiyattam and Kathakali exponent in abhinaya and theatre, along with Smt. Ramya Harishankar, the senior-most disciple of Smt. Kalanidhi Mami. This training greatly enhances the quality of her Bharatanatyam classes for adults, where students learn to master the art of expressive storytelling.
Sridevi’s love for dance has taken her to various stages across India and Australia. She is an active member of ABHAI (Association for Bharathanatyam Artists of India) and served as secretary of BAAVA (Bharathanatyam Acharya Association of Victoria, Australia) from 2020 to 2022. She now leads Sri Devi Arts, where she teaches traditional Bharatanatyam in South Morang and other locations in Victoria.
For the past 8 years, Sridevi has been running her own dance school, Sri Devi Arts, where she conducts Bharatanatyam dance classes in its purest form, adhering to the Kalakshetra style. Her expertise and commitment to the tradition make her one of the best Bharatanatyam dance teachers in the area, providing students with unparalleled training.
