Sridevi Gopinath has been in the field of Bharathanatyam for the past 24+ years in the dance institute “Shri Bharathakala Ashram” under the guidance of Guru Shri K Gopinathan and Smt. Sunitha Gopinathan- a senior disciple of Padmabhushan Prof. C. V Chandrasekhar and Smt. Jaya Chandrasekhar. At the age of 15 years, she completed her “Arangetram” and eventually chose Bharathanatyam as her profession. Sridevi has completed her Master’s in fine arts specialising in Bharathanatyam from Bharathidasan University, India under the guidance of Dr Maria Stella. Sridevi is also being trained in Mohiniyattam from the dance school “Dasyam” under the guidance of Guru Smt Gopika Varma and performed along with her Guru at various concerts and productions.
Falling in love with Abhinaya (expressions/acting), she was extensively trained by Guru G Venu, a kuttiyattam; Kathakali exponent in abhinaya and theatre through the actor training classes. She was also trained by Smt Ramya Harishankar (Senior most disciple of Smt Kalanidhi Mami) on Abhinaya. Following her love & passion for dance, she has performed extensively in various stages in India & Australia. She is an active member of ABHAI (Association for Bharathanatyam Artists of India); (2020 – 2022) secretary of BAAVA (Bharathanatyam Acharya Association of Victoria Australia). Sridevi started assisting her guru at “Shri Bharathakala Ashram”, Chennai and continued there for seven years assisting her Guru. She is now the director and teacher of “Sri Devi Arts”, where she conducts classes at various locations in Victoria for the last 8 years. The school teaches Bharathanatyam in its purest form sticking to the Kalakshetra style with utmost dedication.
